#SelfCareCAL – 20 Self Care Tips For The Time Poor

Not many people have a lot of time for Self Care. If you’re a parent and work full time, you don’t have a lot of time for anything! I wanted to share a few ideas on how to get a bit of self care in when you’re time poor.

  • Get 40 winks. – Sleep is worth every second. But set an alarm so you don’t sleep too long.
  • Turn your phone off for 20 minutes, make yourself a cup of tea and drink it while it’s hot!
  • Read.
  • Draw a picture.
  • Work on your current hobby.
  • Go for a run.
  • Count 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste.
  • Smile at someone you walk past in the street and say hello.
  • Sit on a bench in the local park. (Don’t do this alone at night!)
  • Listen to a podcast/audiobook/calming music.
  • Count to 10.
  • Set your alarm for 15 minutes and imagine you’ve thrown a hula hoop into the room that’s your dumping ground. Spend 15 minutes sorting out that space.
  • Practice gratitude. – Say ‘Thank you’ to the person behind the till at the supermarket.
  • Ask someone how they are and listen to the answer. – Whenever I go to see my GP or a specialist at the hospital, I always start by asking how they are. It brightens their day and makes you feel good.
  • Turn off all your tech, sit comfortably, close your eyes and focus on relaxing each muscle individually.
  • Schedule your time properly so you have time for Self Care. Stick to it.
  • Get up and walk around the house/office.
  • Write some positive affirmations on post it notes and put them up where you can see them.
  • Have a bubble bath.
  • Drink a glass of water.SCCA

  1. I love that some of these are so simple like drinking a glass of water, but I think that can have a good effect on your well being especially if you take a minute or two out to do it.
